The New York Times recently reported that White Plains, NY has started a pilot program in which they’ve purchased 5 electric school buses. Partnering with the State of NY and their local electric utility to help defray the cost of purchase (almost triple the cost of diesel buses), they’re running these emissions-free school buses with music playing loud enough to hear from a block away. The music is necessary because the buses are so quiet! The buses represent what may be the beginning of a major shift since the electric buses produce no emissions–a huge difference from their diesel-powered counterparts. Read the full article.
